Let me be that guy.
As always, I’m usually that guy to call shit out because I just got good instincts. Despite Skyrim selling well and getting high scores across the board, it was complete shit. Even to this day, the PS3 version is a complete mess and lacking expansion packs because Bethesda is an amateur company who just throws lot’s of content into a game and people jump on that virtual dick as if the game was actually good.
I’ve played all 3 versions of Skyrim, and even the PC version, WITHOUT MODS, is shit. People these days are impressed by lot’s of content, even if the content is just nonsense. What ever happened to quality over quantity The game plays like shit, looks like shit, feels robotic, and is down right boring. This is coming from a gamer who loves RPG’s of all types to death.
Unlike other gamers, I do research. I don’t let fancy trailers impress me. Usually trailers have souped up gameplay enhanced by a supreme gaming rig, topped off with effects through Sony Vegas. It’s a common business tactic to make games look better than they actually are. Than you actually get the game, and it’s nothing like the trailers that got you hyped in the first place.
I find out who’s developing upcoming games, their resumes, and how they even go about patching the games they release. I do this for almost every game. Example, did you know that Treyarch of Activision has trouble developing for the PS3, unlike Infintyward who easily releases Call of Duty games for several gaming machines on an equal field? I learn about developers, because I want to know who’s pocket I’m about to fill. I want to know who is about to supply me with hours of entertainment and what machine I should buy the game for because let’s face it, not every developer can develop a game equally on PS3, 360, and PC.
When games are coming up, I admit I can get a little hype myself but I don’t put myself in this position where I’m already claiming a game is perfect and never even played it, because I love the genre or game series. That’s the problem I have most gamers. A while back, I claimed Playstation All-Stars would be nothing special. I was right. I usually am. Because I played the beta for hours and researched the developers. From my experience, I was able to piece together a mini review of a game in progress and come to the conclusion that the game would be decent at best. Flash forward in time, the game get’s a 6 and mostly 7′s, and a few 8′s. I’m a realist, a realist with experience. I got lot’s of hate for my “mini review”, but at all the upset people now who won’t admit I was right.
So let’s look at Far Cry 3. Granted the trailers are well put together, it honestly looks like another boring open world game. What I’ve gathered from all the info available it’s basically Skyrim with guns. A large open jungle/island with loco’s running around doing the damn thing. Let me remind you kids how games work. The bigger the game is, the more likely the game is going to be a glitch fest. I guarantee the game will feel sluggish and not shine in any department. Look at the console gameplay available on youtube, the game looks like it’s running at 15-20 FPS. That’s wonderful…No. No open world game ever has strong combat. There’s just not enough resources in open world games to give you the same gun mechanics that would be found in let’s say, Battlefield 3.
There’s no fluidity in open world games, which is why I’ve always been one to never be impressed by them. Take Fallout for example. Robotic AI characters, with no souls or sense of feeling. The combat outside of the VATS system is something out of a PS1 title. You’ll never get the same fluid gameplay in movement and combat than games that actually revolve on that mechanic. In the end, open world games are just glitch fest worlds with a little of everything, excelling in nothing, which brings me to laugh at how people always hype games like these up as if they are playing something amazing. This is why I find Grand Theft Auto 4 to be trash even to this day, nothing like it’s predecessors. They spent so much timemaking the game look next gen, that the gameplay was sluggish shit. See where I’m going with this?
Also gamers, from the trailers we’ve seen of Far Cry 3, why are you getting so hype for Far Cry 3? I’ve seen absolutely NOTHING new or impressive. I don’t care about the ratings. I’m using my experience as a gamer to basically call the game out. It looks like another open world game that throws content at you, hiding all the problems with the game by having some “OMG EXPLOSIONS” moments. Who knows, maybe I’ll eat my words on release date but let’s look at the last game by Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed III. It was decent at best. Just a large world filled with content, but excelled in nothing and had so many fucking issues that my experienced was hindered hard. The game received a 7 from me, as I couldn’t handle the constant inconsistencies. BUT HEY GUYS IT’S OPEN WORLD AND LIKE THERE’S STUFF TO DO SO YEAH 10/10!!!
